The only substantive difference I brought to it was the late addition of milkweed buds.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8575\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/the_best_cherry_tomatoes.jpg\" alt=\"the_best_cherry_tomatoes\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I think the tomatoes really were &#8216;The Best Cherry Tomatoes&#8217;, at least among the crops available in the season so far.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8577\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/okra2.jpg\" alt=\"okra2\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The small early okra were also delicious, but,\u00a0probably for the first time,\u00a0without the slight crispiness that makes them\u00a0really sing, since I had to crowd the pods in a pan a little smaller than ideal. The\u00a0exigency of the\u00a02-burner grill pan I used for the fish\u00a0meant\u00a0I didn&#8217;t have enough space for\u00a0the\u00a013&#8243;+ cast iron pan I would usually have used.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>five Spanish\u00a0mackerel filets (totaling 13 or\u00a014 ounces) from Blue Moon Fish Company, washed, dried, brushed with olive oil, seasoned with salt and pepper, pan grilled over high heat for a total of about 6\u00a0minutes, skin side down first, then turning once, transferred to plates, topped\u00a0with a salsa of halved cherry tomatoes\u00a0from Stokes Farm\u00a0which had been\u00a0tossed with olive oil, wild\u00a0capers in brine which had been rinsed and drained, some organic\u00a0lemon juice, salt, and pepper, some\u00a0milkweed buds from <a href=\"http:\/\/downhomeacres.weebly.com\/\">Down Home Acres<\/a> (in Unadilla, N.Y.) scattered on and around the fish and the salsa<\/li>\n<li>about half a pound of okra from Kernan\u00a0Farms, saut\u00e9ed in olive oil along with crushed dried chiles in a long oval copper pan over a high flame, then seasoned with salt<\/li>\n<li>the wine was a California (Lodi) white,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/us.nakedwines.com\/wines\/s-a-verdelho-calaveras-county-2014.htm\">S + A Verdelho Calveras County 2014<\/a>\u00a0[the link is to the 2014 vintage]<\/li>\n<li>the music was a beautiful performance of early eighteenth-century concerti, the album, &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arkivmusic.com\/classical\/Name\/Antonio-Anselmi\/Performer\/249905-2\">Concerts &amp; Follies In Pergolesi&#8217;s Time<\/a>&#8216;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once again, a great fish, and a superb\u00a0recipe, this pan-grilled mackerel manages to taste a little different each time I prepare it, and this one may have been the most delicious ever.
