The schnapps was, well, ..just because.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the first course was a salad composed of arugula from\u00a0John D, Madura Farms, sliced\u00a0red-spring shallots\u00a0from Lani\u2019s Farm, and thick slices of <a href=\"http:\/\/foodbeest.com\/2011\/06\/28\/turnips\/\">Japanese Hinona Kabu turnips<\/a> from Tamarack Hollow Farm, dressed with an olive oil from Campania, salt, pepper, and a drop or two of white balsamic vinegar, served with slices of a fantastic rustic 7-grain loaf of bread from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grandaisybakery.com\/\">Grandaisy<\/a>, their\u00a0&#8216;<em>Sette Grani<\/em>&#8216;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the main course was a light pasta, 10\u00a0ounces of Afeltra spaghetti\u00a0chitarra from Eataly, cooked <em>al dente<\/em>, served with a simple fresh sauce which began with\u00a03 minced cloves of garlic from Whole Foods\u00a0and at least 2 cups of\u00a0tender garlic scapes from Lucky Dog Organic Farm, cut into 2-inch lengths, saut\u00e9ed in olive oil for 3-4 minutes, then a little butter and most of the juice of one organic lemon from Whole Foods added to the pan, the drained pasta added once\u00a0the butter had melted, along with the zest from that same\u00a0lemon, the mix stirred over low heat, during which time some reserved cooking water was added to help emulsify\u00a0it, then\u00a0seasoned with salt and pepper, and scattered with purple micro radish sprouts from Windfall Farms<\/li>\n<li>the wine was an Italian (Veneto) white, <a href=\"http:\/\/alphazetawines.com\/docs\/AZ-Factsheet---Soave-2014.pdf\">Alpha Zeta S Soave 2014<\/a><\/li>\n<li>the music was the conclusion of <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/user\/bhoggard\/playlist\/2Z6E79HlrCNjRyJNs21XEZ\">our\u00a04th of July Spotify playlist<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8566\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/blueberries_gelato2.jpg\" alt=\"blueberries_gelato2\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>there was a dessert of a handful of blueberries from\u00a0Kernan\u00a0Farms, topped with a scoop of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ciaobellagelato.com\/madagascarvanilla\/\">Madagascar\u00a0Vanilla\u00a0Ciao Bello<\/a> gelato, with\u00a0a sauce composed of some\u00a0of the\u00a0berries macerated a bit with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.capriflavors.com\/index.php?main_page=product_info&amp;cPath=1&amp;products_id=1593&amp;zenid=0fa0a1fdceefabc7f9e173668e79b855\">Toschi Orzata Orgeat<\/a> syrup, garnished with chopped wild mint from Berried Treasures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8570\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/fir_schnapps-1.jpg\" alt=\"fir_schnapps\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Finally, and\u00a0mostly\u00a0because neither of us could wait to learn\u00a0what it tasted like, a tiny sip of an Oregon\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">Douglas Fir <em>Eau de Vie<\/em>, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clearcreekdistillery.com\/products\/clear-brandies\/\">Clear Creek Distillery<\/a>\u00a0(see the Chartreuse-like color inside the ancient glass in the picture above); it was fantastic!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There were three courses, only because I had some vegetables (and one small basket of fruit) stacked up, waiting their turn at the table.
