It had been an occasional treat for a number of years before that; it was probably\u00a0my enthusiasm for local ingredients that\u00a0has caused me to neglect it since.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday\u00a0my enthusiasm for octopus overcame the locavore in me.<\/p>\n<p>I had been unable to purchase or enjoy any seafood\u00a0yesterday because of our schedule; today (Tuesday),\u00a0because there is no greenmarket offering fish anywhere in Manhattan at least, I headed for The Lobster Place in Chelsea Market, hoping to find something which not\u00a0available from the\u00a0fishers who sell their catch in Union Square.<\/p>\n<p>I bought 4\u00a0small Spanish octopuses (yes, they had been previously frozen, but so is all the wild salmon available to us on the east coast, and that doesn&#8217;t stop me). Unfortunately the rich ocean life of the northwestern Atlantic does not include octopus, and I&#8217;m very fond of octopus.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0prepared them much as I always had in the past. \u00a0They were delicious, as always.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>four baby octopuses (in 2\u00a0sizes, totaling 12 ounces) from <a href=\"http:\/\/lobsterplace.com\/\">The Lobster Place<\/a> in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chelseamarket.com\/\">Chelsea Market<\/a>, marinated for about an hour and a half\u00a0in chopped garlic from\u00a0John D. Madura Farm, oil, local lemon zest and juice from Fantastic Gardens of Long Island, crushed dried red pepper,\u00a0dried Italian oregano and sea salt, then drained, pan-grilled whole on high heat for an average of 4 minutes on each side, finished with a squeeze of the same lemon, olive\u00a0oil and fresh chopped oregano from Stokes Farm<\/li>\n<li>red Norland potatoes from Lucky Dog Organic Farm (very sweet at this time of the year), scrubbed, boiled in salted water unpeeled, halved, tossed with olive oil and chopped wild garlic from Lani&#8217;s Farm, sprinkled with\u00a0purple radish micro greens from Two Guys from Woodbridge<\/li>\n<li>the wine was an Italian (Umbria) white, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.santacristina1946.it\/en\/wines-and-specialties\/umbria-igt-2\/\">Santa Cristina Umbria<\/a> 2012\u00a0[the link is to the 2014 vintage]\u00a0from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philippeliquorsnyc.com\/\">Philippe Liquors<\/a><\/li>\n<li>the music was works by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esapekkasalonen.com\/\">Esa Pekka-Salonen<\/a>, from the album, &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Meet-The-Composer-Esa-Pekka-Segerstam\/dp\/B00002DFK8\">Meet the Composer-Conductor<\/a>&#8216;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>hello old friends &nbsp; It had been almost 5 years since I had cooked octopus.
