{"id":6012,"date":"2015-11-13T07:07:52","date_gmt":"2015-11-13T07:07:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?p=6012"},"modified":"2015-11-13T07:07:52","modified_gmt":"2015-11-13T07:07:52","slug":"chorizo-chickpeas-garlic-pimenton-sherry-parlsey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?p=6012","title":{"rendered":"chorizo, chickpeas, garlic, pimenton, sherry, parlsey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/chickpeas_chorizo_pimenton_garlic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6014\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/chickpeas_chorizo_pimenton_garlic.jpg\" alt=\"chickpeas_chorizo_pimenton_garlic\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>something to keep up one&#8217;s\u00a0sleeve, for emergencies, whether or not the emergencies involve unexpected guests<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s always the same simple recipe, worked by the same cook, and in the same kitchen, but\u00a0it turns out a little differently each time, and not just in its appearance.<\/p>\n<p>I have to assume the source of most, it not all\u00a0of the ingredients was different, but this encounter with a very basic recipe\u00a0differed significantly from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?s=chickpeas\">an\u00a0earlier preparation<\/a>, and\u00a0also from any of the many other\u00a0times\u00a0we&#8217;ve enjoyed it over the years. \u00a0I usually turn\u00a0to this Mark Bittman minimal &#8216;quick meal&#8217;\u00a0after\u00a0we&#8217;ve been out until quite late, when\u00a0there&#8217;s no time to prepare anything more ambitious. Note that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/07\/18\/dining\/18mini.html?pagewanted=all&amp;_r=0\">there are others<\/a>, equally as handy.<\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0never get tired of it. \u00a0It&#8217;s probably\u00a0a little like the kind of reanimation\u00a0that comes\u00a0upon hearing a familiar\u00a0piece of music, perhaps a favorite, in different performances, even if the principle players might remain the same.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bittman&#8217;s\u00a0instructions for this meal, as included\u00a0in his, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/07\/18\/dining\/18mini.html?pagewanted=all\">Summer Express: 101 Simple Meals Ready in 10 Minutes or Les<\/a>s\u201d, read, \u201cPut a large can of chickpeas and their liquid in a medium saucepan. Add some sherry, along with olive oil, plenty of minced garlic, smoked piment\u00f3n (I used &#8216;pikant&#8217; this time) and chopped Spanish chorizo.&#8221; \u00a0(I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooklynfare.com\/products\/ole-chorizo\">Ol\u00e9 &#8216;Spanish Style Dry Cured Paprika Chorizo<\/a>, made in the U.S., from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooklynfare.com\/\">Brooklyn Fare<\/a>, on Schermerhorn Street, which we had opicked up oin the way home from a performance one\u00a0block away, and garlic from Norwich Meadows Farm)<\/li>\n<li>the wine was a Spanish (Murcia) red, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bodegasolivares.net\/en\/wines\/List\/listing\/altos-de-la-hoya-96\/1\">Olivares Altos De la Hoya Monastrell 2012<\/a><\/li>\n<li>the music was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arkivmusic.com\/classical\/album.jsp?album_id=88133\">the\u00a0Piano Concerto No 3 of\u00a0Nikos\u00a0Skalkottas<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>something to keep up one&#8217;s\u00a0sleeve, for emergencies, whether or not the emergencies involve unexpected guests &nbsp; It&#8217;s always the same simple recipe, worked by the same cook, and in the same kitchen, but\u00a0it turns out a little differently each time, and not just in its appearance.
