but they were pretty)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But it really wasn&#8217;t about the tomatoes, and in fact they were barely\u00a0even an afterthought. \u00a0It was about <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Triglidae\">the sea robin<\/a> again.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/sea_robin_tapenade_beans_tomato_arugula2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5941\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/sea_robin_tapenade_beans_tomato_arugula2.jpg\" alt=\"sea_robin_tapenade_beans_tomato_arugula\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0had prepared\u00a0this excellent\u00a0fish <a href=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?s=sea+robin+\">twice before<\/a>, with super success, even if I haven&#8217;t yet come up with an alternative to the recipe I&#8217;ve used each time. \u00a0I now consider sea robin\u00a0a lucky\u00a0find and a great treat &#8211; and, surprisingly, still one of the best bargains on this side of the Atlantic. \u00a0At least so far\u00a0they haven&#8217;t generally been taken seriously as candidates for the dining table,\u00a0usually considered &#8216;rough fish&#8217; or &#8216;trash fish&#8217; by people seeking their prized neighbors, striped\u00a0bass or flounder. \u00a0 In France and elsewhere in Europe they and their relatives, whether called &#8216;gurnard&#8217; or &#8216;rascasse&#8217;, are more respected.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to link to an attractive recipe on another\u00a0site <a href=\"https:\/\/cookinginsens.wordpress.com\/2012\/07\/10\/scorpion-fish-fillets-with-yellow-zucchini\/\">here<\/a>, but it&#8217;s probably more for my own reference when than for any public enlightenment.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>eight quite\u00a0small sea robin fillet, or \u2018tails\u2019, from Blue Moon Fish,\u00a0rinsed, pat dry, then placed in a pan of sizzling olive oil and saut\u00e9ed over medium-high heat for barely\u00a02 minutes on each side, transferred to two plates, a little lemon squeezed on top, then small spoonfuls of an\u00a0olive tapenade sauce spread over or between the fillets, which were then garnished with fresh Gotham Greens Rooftop packaged basil leaves from Whole Foods, torn<\/li>\n<li>the tapenade had been\u00a0prepared with\u00a0Gaeta olives from Buon Italia, a little garlic from Norwich Meadows Farm, one rinsed chopped anchovy, also from Buon Italia, salted rinsed capers from Buon Italia, ground black pepper, olive oil, and a few sprigs of fresh thyme from Phillips Farm, chopped<\/li>\n<li>a handfull of small heirloom cherry and grape tomatoes\u00a0from Berried Treasures, halved, then added to the plates, and seasoned with Maldon salt<\/li>\n<li>yellow flat\u00a0pole beans from Norwich Meadows Farm, blanched, drained and dried, then reheated in oil, finished with salt, pepper, and\u00a0fresh fennel seed from Lani\u2019s Farm<\/li>\n<li>a simple salad of spicy wild arugula\u00a0from Lani\u201ds Farm, tossed with one thinly-sliced shallot from Norwich Meadows Farm, very good olive oil, Italian white vinegar, salt, and freshly-ground pepper<\/li>\n<li>the wine was a California (Napa) white, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gottwines.com\/jgw\/california-sauvignon-blanc\/\">Joel Gott Sauvignon Blanc 2014<\/a><\/li>\n<li>the music was Richard Zimdars performing 20th and 21st-century piano compositions by a number of composers, from\u00a0his album,\u00a0&#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arkivmusic.com\/classical\/Name\/Natalie-Williams\/Composer\/430481-1\">Character Pieces from Four Continents<\/a>&#8216;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(in something of a statement about my at-least-intermittent compulsiveness, the various heirloom cherry tomatoes are already divided into two quite equal shares before the rest of the course has been finished;
