{"id":4431,"date":"2015-06-22T00:43:33","date_gmt":"2015-06-22T00:43:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?p=4431"},"modified":"2015-06-22T00:43:33","modified_gmt":"2015-06-22T00:43:33","slug":"mussels-with-wine-heirloom-tomatoes-lovage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?p=4431","title":{"rendered":"mussels with wine, heirloom tomatoes, lovage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/mussels_big_mussels.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4442\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/mussels_big_mussels.jpg\" alt=\"mussels_big_mussels\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Big mussels.<\/p>\n<p>Friday was \u00a0a very hot day, and I lost a few of mussels\u00a0on my way back home from the Greenmarket.\u00a0I ended up able to steam\u00a0only about a pound and a quarter rather than the two pounds I had wanted to serve,\u00a0probably because someone forgot to ask the fish seller for ice to go. \u00a0I had already diced\u00a0enough heirloom tomatoes for the full recipe, but\u00a0I reduced the amounts of everything else &#8211; perhaps\u00a0with the exception of\u00a0the wonderful bread with which we accompanied it.\u00a0 We still had a an excellent entr\u00e9e, one we seem to <a href=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/2014\/09\/07\/steamed-mussels-with-shallots-wine-tomato-lovage\/\">never tire of<\/a>,\u00a0and we didn&#8217;t even feel we had to go on to another course.<\/p>\n<p>Did I say these\u00a0mussels were big? \u00a0I think they were probably\u00a0the largest black bivalves I&#8217;d ever put into\u00a0a bowl.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>almost enough large mussels,\u00a0purchased from Pura Vida Fisheries in the Union Square Greenmarket, scrubbed and de-bearded, then combined\u00a0in\u00a0a large heavy enameled pot with\u00a0two cups of a variety of halved heirloom tomatoes from S &amp; S.O. Produce and\u00a0Toigo Orchards, half a cup of good white wine, a few tablespoons of chopped shallot from John D. Madura Farm, three tablespoons of butter, a generous\u00a0amount of freshly-ground black pepper, and some coarsely-chopped lovage, also from Berried Treasures, everything\u00a0steamed over high heat for a few\u00a0minutes, and served with\u00a0thick slices of Trucio from Sullivan Street Bakery (a superb rustic sourdough country bread with a dark crust)<\/li>\n<li>the wine was a Spanish white, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.polanerselections.com\/wine\/finca-os-cobatos-godello\">Finca Os Cobatos Godello Monterrei 2013<\/a>, from Galicia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Big mussels.
