{"id":2913,"date":"2014-12-20T23:19:46","date_gmt":"2014-12-20T23:19:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?p=2913"},"modified":"2014-12-20T23:19:46","modified_gmt":"2014-12-20T23:19:46","slug":"pizza-fast-food-that-can-welcome-a-good-wine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?p=2913","title":{"rendered":"pizza, fast food that can welcome a good wine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Roccos_sausage_pizza.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2915\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Roccos_sausage_pizza.jpg\" alt=\"Roccos_sausage_pizza\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>if it&#8217;s art, is it a grid?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sometimes you don&#8217;t miss tomato, even when\u00a0it&#8217;s about\u00a0pizza. \u00a0In fact, until I thought of writing this post, I don&#8217;t think it\u00a0occurred to me that one of our favorite pizzas is never kissed by\u00a0the red fruit of the nightshade.<\/p>\n<p>Pizza is our usual go-to, emergency, fast food alternative whenever there&#8217;s absolutely no time to cook, meaning when there&#8217;s\u00a0a\u00a0performance, protest, or other event which lasts until late in the evening. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.roccospizzany.com\/\">Rocco&#8217;s Pizza Joint<\/a>, which is only a few blocks from us, has a &#8216;Broccoli Rabe &amp; Sausage Pizza Pie&#8217;, and it is often our preference these days &#8211; when we can get it. It&#8217;s a rarity on our table because Rocco&#8217;s usually closes before we have a chance to order, but I think that means\u00a0it&#8217;s appreciated even more when we are able to\u00a0enjoy it.<\/p>\n<p>It may be at least as rare on other tables as well, and not just because <em>rapini<\/em>, or <em>broccoli di rapa<\/em>, may not be to everyone&#8217;s taste: Our\u00a0particular favorite pie doesn&#8217;t actually show up on the shop&#8217;s site. \u00a0It can be found on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seamless.com\/food-delivery\/rocco-pizza-joint-new-york-city.3529.r\">Seamless.com<\/a>\u00a0however.<\/p>\n<p>One of the charms of &#8216;pizza night&#8217; for us is the opportunity it gives, not only to pick\u00a0out a wine appropriate to\u00a0each of the pie&#8217;s variants, but for a low-key, unhurried appreciation of the wine and the pairing. \u00a0Also, pizza leftovers are always a good thing, and there are always leftovers, sometimes with the wine as well.<\/p>\n<p>One more note. \u00a0I will never confuse Rocco&#8217;s product\u00a0with my own white pizza\u00a0outing some\u00a0five years back, either for convenience or taste. \u00a0Mine wasn&#8217;t delivered, and since it took\u00a0longer, it was no solution for a late supper. \u00a0I humbly confess however that if I can remember it correctly, I preferred my ramps and guanciale version, with\u00a0a crust I had rolled out from dough bought at Whole Foods. \u00a0It was beginner&#8217;s luck, plus, really,\u00a0&#8216;ramps and guanciale&#8221;? \u00a0How can you go wrong?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rocco&#8217;s\u00a0Broccoli Rabe &amp; Sausage [white] Pizza, seen here as a rectangular pie in its\u00a0box, lying on top of\u00a0the covered burners of our range; later there would be chile flakes<\/li>\n<li>the wine was an Italian red, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eataly.net\/it_en\/dolcetto-d-alba-doc-2012-0-75l-mirafiore\">Mirafiore Dolcetto d&#8217;Alba 2011<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>if it&#8217;s art, is it a grid?
