We knew we&#8217;d be home fairly late, late at least for making a dinner, so while at the Greenmarket that afternoon while picking a seafood and a vegetable, I chose what what could be placed on the table in a short amount of time. An excellent crusty loaf of bread, also from the Union Square market, was enough to finish the course.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>fourteen scallops (15 ounces) from Pura Vida Seafood,\u00a0washed, drained, and very thoroughly\u00a0 dried\u00a0on paper towels (twice), generously seasoned with sea salt and freshly-ground black pepper, pan grilled for about 90 seconds on each side, arranged on warm plates, finished with a squeeze of a sweet local lemon from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/fantasticgardensofli.com\/\">Fantastic Gardens of Long Island<\/a>\u00a0in the Union Square Greenmarket, and a drizzle of\u00a0Trader Joe&#8217;s Italian Reserve extra virgin olive oil,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21177\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/micro_red_chard-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>garnished with micro red chard, also from Two Guys from Woodbridge<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21149\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/red-frill_mustard.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>red frill mustard from Two Guys from Woodbridge (most of that farm&#8217;s live plant, sold in a container with its roots in water), wilted gently inside a medium size antique copper pot in a little olive oil in which one halved clove of &#8216;music&#8217; garlic\u00a0aka &#8216;strong neck&#8217; from Windfall Farms had been heated gently until it had begun to soften, seasoned with salt and pepper, arranged on the plates and drizzled with the same Trader Joe&#8217;s olive oil<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/maison-kayser-usa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Banner-sarasin.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>pieces torn from a sturdy &#8216;baguette sarasin&#8217; (buckwheat flour bread) from the <a href=\"http:\/\/maison-kayser-usa.com\/products\/\">Eric Kayser<\/a> shop on Broadway below Madison Square<\/li>\n<li>the wine was a French (Loire\/Sancerre) white,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/flatiron-wines.com\/serge-laloue-sancerre-2017\">Serge Laloue, Sancerre 2017<\/a>, from <a href=\"https:\/\/flatiron-wines.com\/\">Flatiron Wines<\/a><\/li>\n<li>the music was the Kevin Volans album,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chandos.net\/products\/catalogue\/CHAN%209563\"> &#8216;Volans: Music for Wind Ensemble&#8217;<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[the image of the baguette is from <a href=\"http:\/\/maison-kayser-usa.com\/our-bread\/\">the bakery&#8217;s own site<\/a>]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night we had plans to see what turned out to be a brilliant production of Athol Fugard&#8217;s brilliant 1969 &#8216;Boesman and Lena&#8217; at Signature Theatre.
