Newport steak from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citarella.com\/\">Citarella<\/a> which would serve both of us, I found I had some Purple Peruvian Potatoes from the stall of <a href=\"http:\/\/nymag.com\/news\/features\/48930\/\">Paffenroth Gardens<\/a>, a bouquet of what we learned was some very sweet red chard from that of <a href=\"http:\/\/lanisfarm.blogspot.com\/\">Lani&#8217;s Farm<\/a> (formerly known as Yuno&#8217;s Farm), and some late-season San Marzano tomatoes from, I think, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1998\/05\/17\/nyregion\/niche-farming-in-new-jersey-is-it-diversity-or-gimmickry.html?pagewanted=all\">Bill Maxwell&#8217;s farm<\/a>, which had finally ripened sufficiently on our north windowsill.<\/p>\n<p>They all came together to make one of the most vibrantly-colorful plates I&#8217;d ever seen, in a &#8220;one-dish meal&#8221; that was also totally delicious.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Italian oil-cured black olives and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertoalimentare.com\/eng\/catalogo_visua.asp?id=29&amp;idcat=54#zoom\">Roberto Torinese breadsticks<\/a>, both from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edengourmet.com\/\">Garden of Eden<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Newport steak pan-grilled and finished with oil and a squirt of lemon; accompanied by Purple Peruvian Potatoes baked in the oven with oil, sprigs of rosemary and plenty of sea salt; braised red chard finished with oil and lemon; and grilled seasoned halves of plum tomatoes finished with Balsamic vinegar<\/li>\n<li>wine:\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chelseawinevault.com\/product_info.php?products_id=32207&amp;osCsid=2f7bf86084f571e9\">Obra Prima<\/a>, Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2005 from Mendoza, Argentinia, Familia Cassone, the generous gift of a friend, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chelseawinevault.com\/\">Chelsea Wine Vault<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When it includes meat or fish I usually serve the main course of a meal with only one, possibly two vegetables, both for simplicity and to concentrate attention on complementary choices I hope I&#8217;d chosen judiciously.
