{"id":17151,"date":"2018-05-19T23:36:07","date_gmt":"2018-05-19T23:36:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?p=17151"},"modified":"2018-05-19T23:36:07","modified_gmt":"2018-05-19T23:36:07","slug":"locally-foraged-pheasant-backs-and-wine-caps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?p=17151","title":{"rendered":"locally-foraged &#8216;pheasant backs&#8217; and &#8216;wine caps&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17202\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/pheasant_back_mushrooms.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the time I had decided, for a couple of reasons, not to do a post about the dinner in they had appeared last week, but these locally-foraged wild mushrooms are so gorgeous that I&#8217;ve decided I had to at least publish an image of them, as they looked in the Greenmarket before I brought half a pound of them home with me.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re called <a href=\"http:\/\/themushroomforager.com\/2011\/05\/12\/the-oft-overlooked-dryads-saddle\/\">&#8216;pheasant back&#8217;<\/a> [Lat. <em>cerioporus squamosus<\/em>], but they&#8217;re also known as &#8216;dryad&#8217;s saddle or &#8216;hawk&#8217;s wing&#8217;, and all of these names seem appropriate.\u00a0 Until I saw them on a table at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.windfallfarms.com\/\">Windfall Farms<\/a> stand in the Union Square Greenmarket on Wednesday I had never heard of them.
