I proceeded to write out a number of possibilities on a sheet of scrap paper, then circled some and drew\u00a0a few diagonal lines between them, and this is what I turned up.<\/p>\n<p>It began\u00a0with a bag of Melothria.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14852\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/melothria_Mexican_gherkins.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also unplanned was\u00a0being able to incorporate the contents of\u00a0a half-empty box of rigatoni that our Berlin apartment exchange friends had left us in one of our cupboards.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a simple sauced pasta which began with a couple tablespoons of olive oil inside a high-sided tin-lined copper pot gently heating roughly half a pound of halved &#8216;Mexican gherkins&#8217; (not actually cucumbers, but &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Melothria_scabra\"><em>Melothria scabra<\/em><\/a>&#8216;)\u00a0along with the last\u00a0fresh <a href=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?s=habanada+pepper\">habanada pepper<\/a> of the season, sliced, after which 8 ounces of\u00a0<em>al dente<\/em>-boiled\u00a0De Cecco\u00a0Rigatoni no. 24 were mixed in, including, oddly, a few ounces of an unlabelled\u00a0 spaghetti\u00a0I\u00a0had also found in that pasta box (I figured it would make the dish look\u00a0even more interesting),\u00a0and about half a cup of reserved pasta cooking water added and stirred in the pot until the liquid had emulsified, a bit of juice from a Whole Foods organic lemon squeezed over the pasta, seasoned with sea salt and freshly-ground pepper, part of a heap of micro scallions tossed and stirred into the mix, which was then placed in 2 shallow bowls, topped with a pinch of fenugreek, garnished with the remainder of the micro scallions and drizzled with a little olive oil<\/li>\n<li>the wine was\u00a0an Italian (Sardinia) white,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vivino.com\/wineries\/sella-and-mosca-spa\/wines\/la-cala-vermentino-di-sardegna-2015\">La Cala Vermentino di Sardegna\u00a02015<\/a><\/li>\n<li>the music was an album of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Nono-Orchestral-Chamber-Digitally-Remastered\/dp\/B0048WCRPC\">Luigi\u00a0Nono Orchestral Works\u00a0and\u00a0Chamber Music<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I had no idea what I was going to make for dinner, other than that it would be a pasta, until I looked at the\u00a0inventory of vegetables and other\u00a0stuff I keep on line on my Evernote application.
