It wasn&#8217;t a Union Square Greenmarket day, so\u00a0it couldn&#8217;t be seafood; 2. It was going to be very warm in the evening and we\u00a0didn&#8217;t want to challenge the air conditioner; 3. We had originally thought we&#8217;d be busy much of\u00a0the evening, which meant there wouldn&#8217;t be a lot of\u00a0time to cook a real meal.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>there was a delicious\u00a0&#8216;P\u00e2t\u00e9 with Goose&#8217; from Schaller &amp; Weber, and a little German mustard [<em>Semf<\/em>] on the side, which really wasn&#8217;t needed at all; a &#8216;<em>Strau\u00df<\/em>&#8216; of upland cress from Two Guys from Woodbridge, dressed with a good Campania olive oil (Lamparelli O.R.O.) and a squeeze of an orange-colored sweet local lemon from Fantastic Gardens of Long Island, Maldon salt and freshly-ground Tellicherry pepper; 4\u00a0halved Backyard Farms Maine \u2018cocktail tomatoes\u2019 from Whole\u00a0Foods Market, dressed with more good olive oil, salt, pepper, and a sprinkling of chopped garlic mustard from Windfall Farms; 3\u00a0cheeses: a raw cow&#8217;s milk cheese, from Isny, in the south German Allg\u00e4u, &#8216;Adel Egger&#8217;; a ewe&#8217;s milk cheese, &#8216;Gutsh\u00f6fer Ziegenk\u00e4se&#8217;, from Twenteland, a green region of in the eastern Netherlands closely bordering Germany&#8217;s M\u00fcnsterland; and a Harvati, a semisoft Danish washed-curd\u00a0cow&#8217;s milk cheese; all of them from Schaller &amp; Weber; slices of Tribeca Oven &#8216;Seeded Jewish Rye&#8217; from Whole Foods Market [there were second servings of p\u00e2te and cheese]<\/li>\n<li>the wine was a German (Mosel) white,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chelseawinevault.com\/weingut-axel-pauly-riesling-trinkfluss-trocken-mosel-2014\">Weingut Axel Pauly Riesling Trinkfluss Trocken Mosel 2014<\/a>, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chelseawinevault.com\/\">Chelsea Wine Vault<\/a><\/li>\n<li>the music was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arkivmusic.com\/classical\/album.jsp?album_id=8320\">Marc-Antoine Charpentier&#8217;s 1693 opera, &#8216;M\u00e9d\u00e9e&#8217;, with a libretto by Thomas Corneille,\u00a0William Christie directing\u00a0Les Arts Florissants<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We decided to have a picnic [Ger. &#8216;Picknick&#8216;], a very simple picnic, for several reasons: 1.
