{"id":12558,"date":"2017-04-19T15:54:49","date_gmt":"2017-04-19T15:54:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?p=12558"},"modified":"2017-04-19T15:54:49","modified_gmt":"2017-04-19T15:54:49","slug":"ein-deutsches-picknick-zu-hause-im-hause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?p=12558","title":{"rendered":"ein deutsches Picknick, zu Hause, im Hause"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12559\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/German_picnic.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was &#8216;<em>Magische Mahlzeit<\/em>&#8216; <em>Vorabend<\/em> (more on that holiday tomorrow).<\/p>\n<p>For a little while I\u00a0had been assembling a number of foods, prepared and fresh, that would lend themselves to being part of a picnic, and in particular, mostly a German picnic.<\/p>\n<p>Last night, after a visit to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.schallerweber.com\/find-buy\/original-store\/\">Schaller &amp; Weber<\/a> in the afternoon, I was ready to assemble one.<\/p>\n<p>As usual, the plates were anchored with a tasty\u00a0dressed green, in this case various baby mustards from the Union Square Greenmarket, to which I added some grown-up arugula, also from the Greenmarket.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12560\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/salad_mix.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the elements included a baby greens salad mix from Lani&#8217;s Farm mixed with some\u00a0arugula from Bodhitree Farm; one German and one Vermont cheese: a sheep milk, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/clubdiogenessommellier.blogspot.com\/2011\/06\/gutshofer-ziegenkase.html\">Gutsh\u00f6fer Ziegenk\u00e4se<\/a><\/em> from <em>Twenteland<\/em> (a <em>bos<\/em>\/<em>Wald<\/em> region in the eastern Netherlands\u00a0bordering German <em>M\u00fcnsterland<\/em>) via old Yorkville&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.schallerweber.com\/\">Schaller &amp; Weber<\/a> on the upper east side, and a goat milk &#8216;Manchester&#8217; from Consider Bardwell Farm;\u00a02 <em>Rot-gebeizt<\/em> pickled eggs from Millport Dairy Farm;\u00a04 Backyard Farms Maine \u2018cocktail tomatoes\u2019 from Whole\u00a0Foods Market;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/kerrygoldusa.com\/products?category=2\">Kerrygold Pure Irish Butter<\/a>; and finally, these all from Schaller &amp; Weber: thin slices of <em>Lachsschinken<\/em> and\u00a0a &#8216;Country Style&#8217; p\u00e2t\u00e9 &#8216;<em>Kassler Art<\/em>&#8216;, a neat tube of &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/kazimierzmarket.com\/hengstenberg-merettina-horseradish-tube\/\">Meretina<\/a>&#8216; horseradish spread (we couldn&#8217;t resist the very neat packaging while at S &amp; W yesterday), slices of\u00a0a\u00a0<a dir=\"ltr\">Balthazar<\/a> rye boule and a &#8216;Westphalian Style whole grain\u00a0pumpernickel bread&#8217; from Chicago&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/rubschlagerbreads.com\/\">Rubschlager Bakery<\/a><\/li>\n<li>the wine was a German (<em>Pfalz<\/em>) white,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vivino.com\/wineries\/friedrich-becker\/wines\/pinot-blanc-2013\">Friedrich Becker Pinot Blanc 2013<\/a>, from our much-missed\u00a0former neighborhood\u00a0wine shop, <a href=\"http:\/\/appellationnyc.com\/\">Appellation Wine &amp;\u00a0Spirits<\/a><\/li>\n<li>the music was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arkivmusic.com\/classical\/album.jsp?album_id=15734#details\">Heinrich Ignaz Biber&#8217;s &#8216;Harmonia artificiosa-ariosa&#8217;, six partitas scored for various instrumental combinations, performed by Tafelmusik<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was &#8216;Magische Mahlzeit&#8216; Vorabend (more on that holiday tomorrow).
