{"id":11153,"date":"2017-01-10T23:49:14","date_gmt":"2017-01-10T23:49:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?p=11153"},"modified":"2017-01-10T23:49:14","modified_gmt":"2017-01-10T23:49:14","slug":"10-years-ago-getaria-pimientos-de-padron-cola-de-rape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/?p=11153","title":{"rendered":"2007: Getaria, anchoas, pimientos de padr\u00f3n, cola de rape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11154\" src=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Mayflower_Pimientos_de_Padr.jpg\" alt=\"mayflower_pimientos_de_padr\" width=\"400\" height=\"602\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s near the depth of winter as I write this, there are no <a href=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/2010\/08\/05\/culotte-steak-pimientos-de-padron-8410\/\"><em>Pimientos de Padr\u00f3n<\/em><\/a>\u00a0to be found in the Union Square Greenmarket, and, in the event, we&#8217;re also on the other side of a great ocean from the Iberian peninsula, but during a conversation with friends last night I was reminded of a wonderful meal we\u00a0enjoyed almost 10 years back in the Basque town of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Getaria,_Gipuzkoa\">Getaria<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The peppers in the photograph had been\u00a0brought to the table\u00a0after we had finished some freshly-oiled anchoas, local anchovies, and, as I recall, before 2\u00a0servings of\u00a0wood-grilled monkfish had arrived. The picture was taken at about the moment we had watched our large\u00a0<em>cola de rape <\/em>being carried by the gills just past us on the stones seen in the background, on their way to the massive open-fire grill behind Barry.<\/p>\n<p>The warmth and simplicity of the\u00a0environment, sitting outside, sheltered from the warm sun above the harbor in an ancient Cantabrian town, and the delicious food and wine*, plus the\u00a0perfect companion in Barry, and\u00a0the <em>m\u00e1s amable de los posaderos,\u00a0<\/em>made this unforgettable meal.
