As was everything else, including the the eggs, which, for the first time in longer than I can remember, were not from a farmer at the Union Square Greenmarket, and [probably] not really local. While there on Saturday, I didn&#8217;t buy\u00a0eggs, thinking\u00a0I\u00a0had 11 left\u00a0in the refrigerator. Later I discovered there were only 5, so I headed down the block to\u00a0Whole Foods and looked for something that might be equivalent to what we&#8217;re used to.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know how long they had been away from the hen, but the 6 large &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/vitalfarms.com\/\">Vital Farms Pasture Raised Organic Eggs<\/a>&#8216;,\u00a0described as &#8216;From Family Farms Across America&#8217; (thus my question about how local they could be) were very good! Maybe it also had something to do with the fact that the package was able to certify &#8216;min 108 sq ft&#8217; for the &#8216;pasture raised standard \/ outdoor space per bird&#8217; (hell, most folks&#8217; offices aren&#8217;t that large).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the breakfast\/lunch included 6 large eggs from Vital Farms (see above); thick bacon slices\/pieces from a package of \u2018ends\u2019 I had cut by hand at home, from Millport Dairy; finely-chopped portions of one tiny yellow and one tiny red hot pepper, both from Eckerton Hill Farm, which had been swimming in olive oil inside a small cup overnight; 2 habanada peppers, chopped, from Norwich Meadows Farm; chopped lovage from Two Guys from Woodbridge; maldon salt and freshly-ground pepper; a mix\u00a0of various chicories and tender greens the folks\u00a0of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/camporossofarm\/\">Campo Rosso Farm<\/a>\u00a0had presented to guests at a farm dinner at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.untitledatthewhitney.com\/\">Untitled<\/a>, dressed with a Campania oil and white balsamic vinegar, maldon salt and freshly-ground pepper; an\u00a0aromatic Middle-Eastern-style seasoning blend,\u00a0\u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyshuk.com\/shop\/lekama\">L\u2019eKama<\/a>\u2018; and toast from slices of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.orwashers.com\/\">Orwasher\u2019s Bakery<\/a> \u2018Pain Rustica\u00a0Umbria\u2019 (unbleached unbromated wheat flour, cabernet grape starter, water, malt, salt, yeast)\u00a0from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.murrayscheese.com\/\">Murray\u2019s Cheese Shop<\/a>,\u00a0made on my\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.camp-a-toaster.com\/\">\u2018Camp-A-Toaster\u2019<\/a>\u00a0[see <a href=\"http:\/\/food.hoggardwagner.org\/2016\/02\/08\/thick-bacon-fresh-eggs-tarragon-salt-pepper-real-toast\/\">this post<\/a>]<\/li>\n<li>the music was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arkivmusic.com\/classical\/album.jsp?album_id=1014682\">Hans Zender&#8217;s Logos-fragmente (Canto Ix)<\/a>, which happens to include\u00a0early Christian texts, so accounting for its being chosen on a Sunday morning (it&#8217;s our\u00a0weekly conceit)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>That bacon was as good as it looks.
